WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County Public Library, located at Delbarton, West Virginia, just finished up their summer reading program entitled “Fizz, Boom, Read.”

During this reading program the children were challenged to read as many books as possible. Every Monday at 2 p.m., Librarian Pam Warden would do experiments with the children in attendance and there was an occasional time when children would come near the end of the work today and Ms. Warden would do the experiments again so all of the children could have a chance to participate.

The overall winner of this year’s program was Brandon Krise, son of Scott and Lori Krise, of Taylorville, West Virginia. Brandon was the lucky winner of a free airboat ride courtesy of Mr. Keith Gibson of Hatfield & McCoy Airboats located at Matewan, West Virginia.

Brandon and two other participants read the most books, but Brandon read the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights. Mr. Gibson challenged any participant to read both of these and said the overall winner would be able to take six other people on the airboat ride as well.

There were several other children that were winners of prizes donated by businesses and they are as follows: Nicholas Adkins and Zachary Krise each won two free passes to Camden Park. Nicholas Adkins and Kaylee Meddings each won two free movie passes, courtesy of Southside Theaters and Evette Hannah. Gavin Adkins and Karysyn Noe each won a gift bag filled with toys and Sadenna Swafford won two free pizzas courtesy of Canada’s Cash. Mr. T’s Pizza of Delbarton donated two large pizzas for the party that was held on Monday, July 28.

The Mingo County Public Library would like to extend a big thank you to Keith Gibson of Hatfield & McCoy Airboats, Camden Park, Evette Hannah of Southside Theaters, Canada’s Cash and Darlene Smith of Mr. T’s Pizza for their continued support of the children and libraries in Mingo County. You are what makes this program successful.
