Defending Class AAA state champion Belfry High School began football practice this week. The Pirate coaching staff were running 63 players through drills on Wednesday morning. Belfry opens the season in the Pike County Bowl as they host Lexington Henry Clay on Friday, August 29th at CAM Stadium. Several starters graduated from last year’s squad, but the Pirates are always able to reload. In this photo assistant coach Nathan Coleman works with some of the players. Belfry head coach Philip Haywood is starting his 32nd year leading the Pirate’s program. He has led them to three state championships and is the all-time winningest coach in Kentucky history with an outstanding record of 376-126. BHS fans are chomping at the bit for football season to get underway.
