Beginning next week, the Tug Valley area will be seeing “orange and black” once again signifying that the Chattaroy Yellow Jackets will be coming together for their yearly summertime reunion. The CJHS alumni will kick things off Friday at 6 p.m. at the Chattaroy Church of God pavilion and putt-putt golf course.
Lisa K. Smith and Harry Mikilian will co-host the evening event. A covered-dish dinner has been organized followed with a remake of the well-known game show from the 70s “The Gong Show.” A cast of well-known area residents will be performing before the audience, a panel of judges and a host to see who ends up with the best finish. Anyone who would like to participate is welcome to join in on the fun.
The rest of the evening will be geared to a social hour, games for all ages and listening to music from the ’70s.
On July 12, the group will come together again for a catered Italian dinner. The evening will be co-hosted by Curt and Marge Fletcher, Doug and Cheryl Howard and Joe and Kathy Howard.
The 2014 class of the CJHS Hall of Fame will be inducted. As in past years, those being inducted will be in complete surprise as the reunion committee strives hard to keep this under wraps until the announcement is officially made that evening.
Mr. and Miss CJHS will be crowned for the 2014 event. Nominations are being accepted until July 11 via Facebook
Recently CJHS alumni lost a valued and beloved teacher, mentor and friend William J. “Bill” Hill last Dec. 10. Because of the huge impact he left on anyone who met him, many suggested an award be given in his honor. The award will be bestowed upon a person who has also made a mark in his or her community throughout the years. Nominations are being accepted via Facebook until Thursday.
The two-day event will end with a dance to the sounds of the ’70s in the parking lot of the church.
Anyone with questions can visit the CJHS Facebook page for updated information and to submit nominations and suggestions.
