DRIFT, Ky. - It took extra innings, but Belfry won a one run baseball game, edging Allen Central 7-6 in eight innings on Monday at Turner Field in Drift, Ky.
In the top of the 1st inning for Belfry, Keaton Taylor reached safely on an error by the center fielder and then stole 2nd and 3rd base to get into scoring position. He came in on an RBI sac fly by Garrett Fannin.
Allen Central tied the game in the 1st inning at 1-1. Junior Handshoe walked, then stole 2nd base and scored when Cameron Blevins reached safely on an error by the first baseman.
ACHS took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Cameron Hamilton singled, followed by a Kain Taylor RBI single and a Trey Aldrich RBI single. The home team took the field up 3-1.
In the Belfry 5th, the speedy Taylor lined a single and then stole 2nd base. Fannin was then hit by a pitch. Senior Joey Duty stroked an RBI double, followed by a Zac Fields 2-run double.
Continuing the rally, Trenity Carr smacked an RBI double and Jordan Meddings cracked an RBI pinch hit single as Belfry took the lead 6-3.
The Rebels tied the game in the 5th as Handshoe reached first base on a single and stole 2nd base. Then Aldrich lined an RBI single, followed by a Blevins RBI single to cut into the BHS lead.
Keaton Taylor then replaced Zac Fields on the mound, giving up a single to Dustin Johnson before getting out of the inning.
Belfry took the 7-6 lead in the top of the 8th when Duty cracked a 1-out RBI double and Fields smacked a 2-out RBI double to give the Pirates of coach Michael Hagy the lead.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Pirate catcher Caleb Stanley picked off Cameron Blevins at 3rd base to end the game.
Keaton Taylor (5-4) was the winning pitcher for the Pirates. He pitched 4 shutout innings of relief, giving up 3 hits, walking 6 and striking out 9.
Dillon Lawson took the loss on the hill for ACHS.
