GOODY, Ky. - Senior catcher Caleb Stanley cracked a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Belfry a 9-8 win over visiting Prestonsburg on Saturday at Massey Energy Field at Goody, Ky.
The game was tied 8-8 heading into the Belfry 7th when Jacob Francisco singled to right and went to 3rd base on an error by the right fielder. That’s when Stanley won the game with his RBI single to left field.
Belfry trailed 8-1 heading into the 5th inning.
They scored 4 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th to tie the game.
In the 5th, Francisco walked and Stanley singled, followed by a Keaton Taylor RBI grounder to the Blackcat pitcher. Then Garrett Fannin reached safely on an error by the third baseman. Nate Sanger, who came in as a courtesy runner for Stanley, and Fannin, both scored when Reed Williamson hit the ball to the shortstop, who made an error on the play. Then Zac Fields smashed an RBI double to left.
In the bottom of the 6th, Belfry’s Aaron Taylor doubled to center, then Francisco singled to left and stole second base. Then Stanley had a sacrifice fly, followed by a K. Taylor RBI single to left field. Taylor then stole both second and third base and scored on a Joey Duty sacrifice fly.
Prestonsburg got a run in the top of the 1st frame when Grant Anderson was hit by a pitch and then scored when Jarin Hall was safe on an infield error by Belfry.
Belfry tied it at 1-1 in the 1st inning when Keaton Taylor doubled to left field and scored on a Duty RBI single to left.
P-burg got another run in the top of the 2nd inning when Dylan Slone singled to left and scored on an Aaron Foley RBI single to center.
The Blackcats scored one more run in the 3rd inning when Hunter Brown singled to center and scored on a 2-out passed ball.
P-burg rallied for five runs in the top of the 4th frame to take an 8-1 lead. Anderson doubled to center; then Foley reached safely on an error and Reese Isom had a sacrifice fly. Brown and Hall both walked to load the bases and Foley scored when John Cooksey struck out, but reached first base on an error by the catcher.
The Blackcat rally continued when Slone stroked a 2-run single to right field.
At that point Belfry coach Michael Hagy made a pitching change. He brought in Reed Williamson to replace K. Taylor on the mound.
Then, after walks to Travis Powers and Anderson, which brought in another run, Duty came into the game in relief.
Duty got the win on the mound for the Pirates, while Blade Slone took the loss for P-burg.
