Renovation of the hospitality room at the Williamson Fieldhouse is progressing quickly.
The room will become the Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame Hospitality Room, which will be available for rental for class reunions, meetings and other events.
The room has been extended and widened and will have a sports theme.
One end will feature a picture of three wolves that reads “Wolfpack”
One wall will have a baseball theme, another will have a football drawing and the other a basketball illustration.
The WHS Hall of Fame committee still is in need of donations to help pay for the project. The group hopes the work will be finished for this year’s induction ceremony.
One end of the room will be dubbed the “dugout” and will be for the head table of events like the hall of fame inductions.
Nominations still are being taken for this year’s WHS Hall of Fame class. The deadline is April 26. Persons making a nomination should include pertinent information on the nominee. This can be accomplishments such as All-State, All-Area, number of sports participated in, etc.
Nominations can be sent to Cecil Hatfield, WHS Hall of Fame, at 1726 W. 5th Ave., Williamson, WV 25661.
The next induction will likely be in August or September. The date will be announced later.
Past inductees are encouraged to make donations to the room, as well as the WHS Hall of Fame committee. The money is used to buy plaques, pay for the dinner and other necessary fees.
Past graduates of Williamson High School also are encouraged to make a donation of any amount to the hospitality room fund.
The plaques of past inductees will be displayed behind a Plexiglass wall. Those plaques were displayed at the Williamson High School cafeteria before the school was consolidated into Mingo Central and closed.
The WHS organization also hopes to “bring home” the past state championship trophies and other awards and display them in trophy cases at the Fieldhouse.
