DELBATON – Westside swept a doubleheader from Mingo Central by mercy ruling the Lady Miners two times, 20-0 and 12-0 at the Delbarton field on Wednesday evening.
In the first game, Kiearia Hammond got the only hit for Mingo Central. The Lady Miners of Coach Chad Varney hurt themselves on defense with 12 errors.
Elizabeth Hatfield took the pitching loss. She had 4 strikeouts, walked 3 batters and gave up 7 earned runs.
For Westside, Christian Price clubbed 3 home runs and had 7 RBIs. She also had a base hit. Aly Fleenor picked up the pitching win and she helped her own cause with 4 hits, including a double and triple. She scored 5 runs. Fleenor struck out 12 Mingo batters.
Rachel Goode and Carli Bryant each had 3 hits, while Lora Cline had 2 for Westside.
In the nightcap, Westside’s Cassie Blankenship tossed a no-hitter in 3 ½ innings with 6 strikeouts and only one walk.
Fleenor, Leann Pack, Alexis Walls and Carly Pruett each had hits for the Lady Renegades. Walls and Pruett each had 2 RBIs.
Kara Lester took the loss on the rubber for the Lady Miners. Once again MCHS did not field well, making 7 errors. Only 4 of the runs were earned off Lester. She had one strikeout, but she walked 7 Westside batters.
Mingo Central is slated to travel to Herbert Hoover today for a doubleheader and play host to Wayne on Saturday for a twinbill.
