BMS Lady Pirates softball team improved to 2-0

The Belfry Middle School Lady Pirates softball team improved to 2-0 on the season Thursday night at home with an 11-1 win in a rain shortened game.

The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 9-1 first inning lead and tacked on two more in the second inning to account for their 11 runs. The Lady Pirates were led by Kailee Rash at the plate going 2-2 with a double, single and 4 RBI’s. Kaelyn Stafford had a double to round out the pirates three hits.

There were 10 Lady Pirates who reached base on walks and two more that were hit by a pitch.

Lyndsey Miller got the win on the mound by pitching 2 innings of one run softball. Miller had one strikeout, and gave up one hit.

Summer Hylton came on in relief to pitch one scoreless inning of no-hit softball. The Lady Pirates were scheduled to return to action Saturday on the road at East Ridge.

Belfry Middle 22, Kimper 11

The BMS Lady Pirates softball team won the opening game of the season 21-11 over the home standing Phelps Hornets at Johnson Bottom park.

After a tightly played game throughout the first four innings the Lady Pirates were able to mount a 12 run 5th inning rally to blow the game open and pick up the win. The Lady Pirates were led on the mound by Kailee Rash who came on in relief of Ariel Mounts in the 2nd inning. Rash pitched 3 and 2/3 innings for BMS and did not give up any hits and she had 9 strikeouts.

Mounts pitching line was 1 and 1/3 innings, 2 hits, 2 strikeouts, and 8 runs. Mounts and Emily Deaton led the pirates at the plate with 3 hits. Kailee Rash, Kylea Stanley, Lyndsey Miller, Kaelyn Stafford, Summer Hylton and Skyler Vipperman all chipped in with two hits each.
