Those who find it in their hearts to donate blood will be able to show their love of basketball and save a life at the same time.
Donors will receive a Kentucky Basketball Madness T-shirt and a chance to win a 55-inch LG LED Smart TV and a Google Chromecast HDMI Streaming Media Player (must be at least 18 years old to win the prize).
The Kentucky Blood Center has scheduled two blood drives at locations in Pike County.
The Hellier Missionary Baptist Church, at 6846 Marrowbone Creek Road, Elkhorn City, will host a blood drive in their Fellowship Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday.
Majestic Knox Creek Elementary, at 51765 KY 194, Majestic, will host a blood drive in their Multi-Purpose Room from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday.
Blood donors must be 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo ID and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
KBC is the largest FDA-regulated blood bank in Kentucky. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties. KBC relies on volunteers to donate 400 pints of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs. Over the last year, KBC distributed nearly 130,000 blood components.
