Kyle’s Korner ….
As usual the Class AA sectional tournament should be a competitive event this year. The same with the Class A brackets.
Both Mingo Central and Tug Valley should be in the thick of things.
The tourney dates for the Class AA have been scheduled and the games will be played at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse (Willie Akers Arena).
The play-in game will be the 4th and 5th seeds on Saturday, March 1st. That will likely be Tolsia vs. Wayne.
The second night of the tourney will be Wednesday, March 5th, with the No. 1 seed taking on the winner of the play-in game and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds battling it out to go to the championship game.
The Class 2A title game will be on Friday, March 7th starting at 7 p.m. The three teams battling for the top three seeds are Mingo Central, Scott and Chapmanville. That will be decided as the regular season games are finished.
In Class A, defending state champion Tug Valley hopes to repeat as the champion. They have highly ranked Greater Beckley Christian (GBC) in their way.
Of course, with the new tournament set-up, the sectional runner-up gets one more chance to advance and play in the super regional championships the following week.
The five teams in the local Class A sectional are Tug Valley, Man, Van, Sherman and GBC.
The play-in game is Saturday, March 1st. The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday, March 4th and the championship game on Friday, March 7th. Instead of a neutral floor, the Class A coaches voted to play on the higher seeds home court.
It should make for an interesting tournament scenario this season.
