MATEWAN - A Saturday morning fire in the Lynn Bottom community near Matewan has left four adults and one infant without a home.

According to information provided by Doug Goolsby, who serves as interim Mingo County emergency services director, the fire occurred shortly after daylight and the mobile home was listed as a total loss.

No injuries occurred and everyone was able to escape the burning structure, Goolsby said. No cause has yet been determined for the fire, which remains under investigation. Goolsby said the electrical lines were burned during the blaze and caused a power outage that affected a nearby residence.

Goolsby contacted the local chapter of the American Red Cross, which was asked to provide emergency shelter and assistance for those affected by the loss. Matewan Volunteer Fire Chief Brian Casto and members of his department battled the blaze and prevented damage to the adjacent property.

Anyone who would like information on how to donate to the individuals in need may contact Casto at 304-426-4321.
