Mingo Central and Tug Valley both come in as top 10 teams in the 2013-14 Preseason Poll West Virginia Boys Preseason Basketball Poll released by the

Associated Press.

The poll is voted on by sports writers across the Mountain State.

The Miners come in at No. 9 in Class AA, while Tug Valley, the defending Class A state champs, come in at No. 6.

Many pollsters know that Tug Valley was hit hard by graduation, but the Panthers still received two first place votes.

Westside and Wyoming East are also in the top 10 in the first poll released.

Most teams are opening up their schedules this week.

Tug Valley, coached by Rabbit Thompson, opened with a win over Phelps, Ky. on Tuesday and travels to Richwood on Friday.

Mingo Central opened its season Wednesday night versus Scott, who comes in ranked just ahead of the Miners at No. 8.

The Miners of head coach Brad Napier travel to Chapmanville on Friday night. Both of this week’s games are Cardinal Conference match-ups.
