LOGAN - Chief Logan State Park celebrates the season with Christmas in the Park and more than a mile of holiday lights. Christmas in the Park is an annual drive-through lighting display event with nearly 200 display pieces. The light show runs from Nov. 28, 2013, through Jan. 1, 2014, from dark until 10 p.m.
Christmas in the Park is free to the public. Donations are welcome and are used to purchase and repair displays, to pay for thousands of replacement bulbs each year and to pay the electric bill. Visitors are asked to drive slowly and carefully.
Chief Logan State Park is located in Logan and is accessed via Little Buffalo Creek Road. This state park features a campground, multiple picnic options, Museum in the Park, fishing, summer recreation and the summer amphitheater series. For Christmas in the Park information, call 304-792-7125.
The Museum in the Park at Chief Logan State Park holds a special day of holiday-themed crafts and activities each year on the second Saturday in December, which is Dec. 14 this year. Visitors who come to the museum during the daylong celebration can create a holiday craft, enjoy storytelling or musical concerts, and sometimes a visit with Santa, along with free cookies and hot chocolate. The museum is open holiday hours Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. The museum phone number is 304-792-7229.
Chief Logan Lodge and Conference Center is nearby and accessible from US 119 at mile marker 30.5. This complex offers 75-upscale hotel rooms, restaurant and conference and meeting rooms.
The lodge offers a variety of rates and packages. A current rate promotion is Mercury Dropping with rooms at $79. The park website “Deals” page also includes a $18.63 discount off standard rates and a stay-and-pay for one night and the next night is free, including suite options. A New Year’s Eve package is available for Dec. 31.
