An alleged incident at Walmart on Tuesday led to an arrest on multiple charges for a Harlan man.

Jason Callahan, 21, was arrested by Harlan Police Officer George Young on Wednesday.

According to Harlan Police Officer Derek Noe, Callahan was caught shoplifting Tuesday night at the Harlan Walmart by a store manager. When the manager confronted Callahan, Callahan shoved the manager in order to get around him. Callahan then fled the store.

Officer Britt Ross, who is investigating the case, obtained a warrant for Callahan.

Noe said he, Young and Harlan Police Chief Mike Thomas located Callahan at his sister’s residence on Wednesday. Noe said Callahan resisted arrest and threatened Young’s life.

The citation states Callahan refused to obey verbal commands, threatening Young’s life after being taken into custody.

Callahan was charged with second-degree robbery, theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000, first-degree terroristic threatening and resisting arrest.

Callahan was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on two full cash bonds totalling $19,000.

In other police activity, Franklin Harman, 51, of Standford, was arrested Wednesday by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of failure to comply with sex offender registration. Harmon was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $5,000 full cash bond.
