Mingo County 4-H spends day at Marshall University

HUNTINGTON - Mingo County 4-H members, adult volunteers, parents and staff attended the Marshall Football game on Sat. Nov. 9 between Marshall and University Alabama Birmingham.

Marshall won the game 56-14. The Group was provided a tour of the MU campus, provided by our own adult volunteer and Marshall student Zana Watkins, and was treated to a tailgate party on the main lot with hotdogs, chips and beverages that was prepared by Mingo County/WVU Extension Agent, Mark Whitt. Mr. Whitt stated “ this is an annual event that our 4-H leaders want to do to expose our youth to college life and let them know that one day they can achieve the career that they choose. This is a great way to expose them to a college campus and the exciting event of a football, in which most was their first college game”.

Whitt thanked the adult leaders, Debbie Starr, Kay Thaxton, Pam Hager, Brandy Thacker, Don Spence, Zana Watkins , Alfred Belcher, and Fred Dean for taking time to help with this year’s event.

“The youth were great representatives of our 4-H program and our County. Also a big thanks to the Mingo County BOE, Dr Chris Epling(for the tailgate space) David Miller and the MU athletic office for the hospitality,” Whitt said.
