CHARLESTON – The Lady Miners of Mingo Central recently played in the Civic Center Volleyball Showcase. The Showcase is an annual, invitation only, event which pits teams from all classes against other teams across the across the state.
Mingo Central played a tri-match on Wednesday night of the three night event. In the first match, the Lady Miners edged out Parkersburg Catholic by scores of 25-23, 18-25, and 26-24. In this match, Kristyn Johnson had 9 kills, Kiearia Hammond 6, Ashley Curry 6, and Hannah Church 3. Digs were returned by Johnson with 5, Hammond 8, Curry 2, Stacy Cisco 5, Brandi Cisco 1, Kara Lester 3, and Tiffany Cottle 1. Johnson had 8 service points against PCHS, B. Cisco 3, Hammond 5, Curry 10, church 2, and S. Cisco 7.
In the second match of the night, the Lady Miners played hard, but couldn’t get the win against the very strong AAA team from South Charleston. In the 18-25 and 16-25 loss to the Black Eagles, Curry had 3 kills, Church 2, and S. Cisco 1. Johnson had 8 digs, Hammond 5, Curry 2, Church 7, S. Cisco 7, B. Cisco 4, Lester 1, and Cottle 1. Service points were earned by B. Cisco with 2, Hammond 3, Curry 3, Church 1, and S. Cisco 5.
The Lady Miners, now 12-7 on the season and will travel to Wayne on Thursday, October 3rd, to take on the Pioneers.
