The latest Cardinal Conference standings were released on Wednesday and Mingo Central is undefeated in the league at 1-0.
This is currently good enough to be tied for third place in the conference with powerful Wayne High School.
The Miners of coach Yogi Kinder have an overall record of 3-1. They are currently ranked No. 10 in the SSAC poll.
The only conference game Mingo Central has played to this point was with Tolsia. This week the Miners have a bye week. Next Friday they will play host to the conference champions and the 2-time defending Class 2A state title holder the Pioneers of Wayne.
This will be the first time Wayne has invaded Buck Harless Stadium. The Pioneers come in at 3-0 this week and 1-0 in the conference. They will play Sissonville this Friday night. Sissonville is No. 1 in the conference with a 3-0 record and 4-0 overall. The Indians are ranked No. 2 in the SSAC poll.
The Sissonville and Wayne game has been highly anticipated. This contest will tell the tale of just how legitimate Sissonville is this year.
The Chapmanville Tigers are now 3-1 in the conference. They lost their season opener to Sissonville 40-22, but have since beaten three Cardinal Conference opponents in Herbert Hoover, Scott and Poca.
Chapmanville will host Mingo Central for the first time ever on October 18. Central, the newest member of the Class AA conference still does not have every team on its schedule. They have five of the other seven teams scheduled this year, but due to having contracts already in place for 2013, could not schedule Sissonville and Scott this year. Next season they will have a full slate of conference games, plus three non-conference opponents.
Here are the Cardinal Conference standings:
1. Sissonville 3-0, 4-0
2. Chapmanville 3-1, 3-1
3. Mingo Central 1-0, 3-1
3. Wayne 1-0, 3-0
5. Herbert Hoover 1-2, 1-3
6. Poca 0-1, 1-3
7. Tolsia 1-3, 1-3
8. Scott 0-3, 1-3
