PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Class 2A Mingo Central moved up to a tie for No. 10 in the latest SSAC rankings in West Virginia.
The Miners are tied with Cardinal Conference foe Chapmanville. MCHS was No. 15 last week.
Mingo Central defeated Westside last Friday and they now have a record of 3-1. There lone loss was a season opening heartbreaker to Wyoming East by one point at Buck Harless Stadium.
Meanwhile, Tug Valley dropped to No. 18 in the Class A poll after their loss to Haysi, Va. last weekend.
The Panthers will travel to Tolsia this week to take on the Rebels. TVHS was No. 15 last week.
Meanwhile, Mingo Central gets a break this week with a bye. However, next week the Miners will entertain perennial Class 2A power Wayne. The Pioneers are the two-time defending state champions.
Besides Chapmanville being ranked No. 10 with Mingo Central, nearby Man High School is ranked No. 8 in Class A and Logan is ranked No. 18 in Class 3A.
Huntington is ranked No. 1 in the state’s large school classification, followed by George Washington. Both of those schools are 4-0. Capitol, Point Pleasant and Wheeling Park, are each 3-0 this week and they round out the top five in Class 3A in this week’s poll.
In Class 2A Fairmont Senior (3-0) comes in a No. 1, followed by Sissonville, Summers County, Frankfort and Wayne. All of those schools are undefeated at this point in the season.
In Class A, Madonna and Williamstown are tied as the No. 1 teams, followed by St. Marys, East Hardy and Greenbrier West rounding out the top five.
Here is the Secondary School Activities Commission’s weekly high school football computer ratings. The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs in November:
