WEST WILLIAMSON - Gridiron Alumni, a company that puts on rivalry games all across the nation, is adding one more big rivalry to its calendar. On October 5, 2013, the alumni of Burch will go against the alumni of Williamson in another legendary battle.
This one is extra special since neither school exists any more. The game is slated for Saturday, October 5 at the legendary Lefty Hamilton Park.
Both teams are practicing, but more players are welcome to come out. If you or someone you know is interested, please go to www.gridironalumni.com to register and pay.
The Williamson players are having their next practice on Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at the track on Alderson Street and then again on Sunday, September 1, at 5 p.m. at Lefty Hamilton Park.
Gridiron Alumni will provide the helmets and pads, but players will need to provide their own mouth guards and cleats. “We provide everything else,” said Chris Hall, of Gridiron Alumni.
Williamson is technically the “home” team since they got the first 30 to register, however, some of these players still need to pay their fee, according to Hall. Both, Burch and Williamson alumni are encouraged to add more players to the roster.
After being out of high school a few years, players are not as in shape as they once were. So the teams are encouraged to have a lot of subs for the game.
Hall said it should be fun for the former players, their families and the fans of the Wolfpack and Bulldogs.
He reminds everyone that the game is for fun and that good sportsmanship is encouraged. There are several good players that have already signed up for both teams.
Ticket prices will be $10 for adults (18 and over), $5 for Students (6-17 years of age with school ID), and Military in Uniform and Kids 5-years old and under are always free.
