WHARNCLIFFE - A recent arrest by the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) occurred after allegations of sexual abuse were made against a Wharncliffe resident.
According to the police report filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court by MCSD Deputy L. Thomas, Randall Julius Spence, 67, of Wharncliffe, did have sexual contact with a female victim (named withheld per request of the deputy) without her consent.
The complaint states that the defendant forcibly grabbed and groped the breast of the victim and furthermore, touched the victim in other places on her body and attempted to remove her clothing and kiss her while holding her down in a manner that prevented her from getting loose. The female victim suffered bruising and contusions during the attack and feared for her life.
Spence was taken into custody and was arraigned before Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome, who set bond at $10,000 for the sexual abuse charge. The defendant was transported to the Southwestern Regional jail at Holden and was later released after meeting the stipulations and requirements attached to his bond.
Spence is scheduled to appear in magistrate court on August 8th at 9 a.m. for his preliminary hearing before Magistrate Newsome. If probable cause is found, the defendant will be bound over to the grand jury.
