Amos Jay Hatfield, 86 of Gilbert, departed this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born December 27, 1926 at Gilbert, he was the son of the late Virgil and Ida Trent Hatfield.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Hatfield Jeffrey and one brother, Donald R. Hatfield.
Amos was a graduate of Gilbert High School class of 1945. He briefly worked with the US Steel engineers. He was a retired business owner and operator. He took over Gilbert Furniture in 1949 and was very successful. He was a bank director of Gilbert Bank and Trust and Matewan National Bank and served on the advisory committee of BB&T Bank. He was a 50 year Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine. Amos loved to coon hunt and fish and he had a lot of friends that loved to go with him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and loving him.
Those remaining to love and cherish the memory of Amos and to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Lucille Mundy Hatfield of Gilbert, whom he married in 1951; his son, Ricky J. Hatfield and his wife Robin Stone Hatfield of Gilbert; his two grandchildren: Darcy Goins and Andy J. Hatfield; his two great-grandchildren: Jaxton Goins and Jessie Jae Hatfield; his two brothers: Tennis R. Hatfield and James W. Hatfield, both of Gilbert; his two wonderful caretakers, along with his wife, Rachael Morgan and Dorene Nagy; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Friday, June 14th from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Masonic graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 15th at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby Heights of Pecks Mill, with Rev. Doug Pendleton officiating.
He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
