Tug Valley wins opener over Hannan
NAUGATUCK - The Tug Valley Panthers got their baseball season off to the right start with a 13-3 win over Hannah on Friday.
The Panthers took a 5-0 lead in the bottom half of the 1st inning. They scored one more run in the 2nd frame, then five more in the fourth inning.
Tug Valley capped if off with two in the 5th to win via the mercy rule.
Senior Jordon Mounts picked up the mound win pitching four innings. He helped his own cause with a pair with a hit and scored a run.
Cleanup hitter David Runyon had two hits and scored twice, Josh Cassell had a pair of hits and Trevin Horn had a hit.
Hannan got a pair of hits from Tyler Jenkins. He was also the losing hurler for the visitors.
Tug Valley is scheduled to host Phelps on Tuesday.
Chapmanville 17, Mingo Central 0
CHAPMANVILLE - Mingo Central lost its baseball season opener this past Thursday 17-0 at Chapmanville. Joe May had a double for the Miners, which was their only hit.
The Miners were to have played a doubleheader at Wayne on Saturday. They travel to Poca on Wednesday. Mingo Central is going to play some of its home games at historic Lefty Hamilton Park in West Williamson this season.
Lawrence County 3, Belfry 1
The Belfry Pirates dropped to 0-2 on the season losing to regional rival Lawrence County 2-0 Friday. No details or stats were reported from the game. Belfry had lost to Paintsville 7-1 in the season opener.
Belfry had a home twinbill scheduled for Saturday, depending on the weather. They will host Phelps on Tuesday.
