Williamson Midget Football League began their season early, as they met on March 2, 2013 at the Williamson Fieldhouse to discuss the future of the league.
The meeting was mandatory for all coaches. The Williamson Park Board Members were invited to attend, as issues of fundraising and facilities are directly related to them. Their interest in organized youth sports was evident by the presence of five of their members, Curt Phillips, President of the Board, Dr. Steve Wilson, Scott Poole, Chris Ooten, Connie Rockel and Pierce Whitt, Director.
“All coaching staff has been finalized. Each coach has excellent knowledge of the sport and they are role models and are eager to start the season,” said Lori Phillips, Commissioner of the WMFL. Donnie Bishop, last year’s commissioner, resigned, so he could devote his time to Coaching The “A” Football Team.
“The league has some big plans for getting the youth in our community involved with organized sports,” Phillips said. The WMFL will be offering a Football/Cheerleading Camp during the last two weeks in July, two hours in the evening, four days a week. There will be a small fee of $25 for the first child, $10 for the second child, up to a maximum of $60. At the end of the camp, there will be a free swim day, sponsored by Dr. Steve Wilson, and the league will have many activities going on during the day, including sign-ups for the 2013 season. The WMFL Cheerleaders will also be attending the Tug Valley Cheer Camp, hosted by the State Champ Cheerleaders. This will help in preparation of attending the SWMFL Cheerleading Competition, in November, according to Phillips
“Our Parks Board members have been extremely supportive of our league. Dr. Wilson is sponsoring the free swim day, Pierce Whitt has started the necessary upgrades to the Fieldhouse and Lefty Hamilton Park, which is going to help the league tremendously,” Commissioner Phillips said. “Our post season athletic banquet will utilize the swimming pools community center, which will house the First Annual WMFL athletic banquet to include all teams and squads.” Sign-ups for the League will be in June, and dates will be announced later. The league now has its own Facebook page Wolfpack Nation.”
