NAUGATUCK – The Lady Panthers of Tug Valley picked up a good win Monday night against sectional rival Man 65-54 at the TVHS gym at Naugatuck.
Senior guard Adreana Vance had a career high 31 points and also had five steals. The point guard also dished out five assists.
Junior post player Hannah Armstrong made her comeback from a severe ankle injury and picked up where she left off. Armstrong fired in 19 points and hauled in 14 rebounds.
“Well first thing it was nice to have Hannah Armstrong back on the court tonight. Her presence on the floor means a lot to our team and it showed tonight,” said head coach Okey Smith. “I think the other big difference tonight than the last time we played them was that we were able to slow down their penetration to the basket better than we did at their place.”
“What can you say about the game that Adreana had? She has picked up her game during the time that Hannah and Whitney have been out and she continued her great play tonight,” Smith said.
“Emily Baisden (7 points, 9 rebounds) continued her good play tonight and I thought a big part of the game was the job that Cassie Griffith and Katie Robinson did on Morgan Conn. Summer Sword killed us again tonight but sometimes it’s hard to slow down players as good as her. The girls off the bench Cassidy, Haylea, and Abbie gave us some good minutes. Whitney played hard tonight but she is still slowed by her injury, she will probably rest during practice the rest of the week to give her injury more time to heal.”
Sword led the Lady Hillbillies with 23 points and 14 reobounds. Mika McCoy added 14 in the losing effort.
Tug Valley is now 9-7 on the season. They play at Greater Beckley Christian on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Man is now 10-6 on the season.
