WEST WILLIAMSON – The Williamson Fieldhouse will host another basketball game Wednesday night as the Mingo Central Miners will play host to River View in a makeup game.
The game was postponed because of inclement weather. Coach Brad Napier said that with the Mingo County Middle School tournaments being played at the MCHS gym this week and next, he needed a venue for a “home” basketball game. So the historic Fieldhouse is the answer.
The Miners (7-5) still have to reschedule road games with Herbert Hoover and Wayne, both Cardinal Conference matches.
Tug Valley will be very busy this week. The Panthers of coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson will host Belfry on Thursday, Mingo Central on Friday and travel to Greater Beckley Christian on Saturday.
All three of those games are teams the No. 2 ranked Panthers have played this season. Belfry (9-6) defeated Tug Valley on their home court 80-76, so Tug Valley will be out for a little revenge.
The Panthers defeated Mingo Central 66-45 up on the mountain and GBC 74-61 at home earlier in the season. Tug Valley is now 12-3 on the season.
Belfry has a big home game with Sheldon Clark on Saturday night.
The recent snowy weather has forced the postponement and cancellation of several games by both the boys and girls teams in the area. (See the area schedule on this page for a rundown of games this week.)
