WILLIAMSON — A Williamson man was arrested Sunday morning after police found him hiding in a 15-year-old girl’s closet at her Vinson Street home.

Remington Hitchcock, 29, of Williamson, was arrested by Williamson Police Department Officer Jeff Taylor and West Virginia State Police Trooper D.M. Williamson.

Williamson Chief of Police C.D. Rockel told the Daily News that a concerned neighbor saw Hitchcock enter the girl’s house and worried for her welfare. The neighbor called the police to report the suspicious activity. According to Rockel, the girl’s parents were not home when Hitchcock entered the residence.

Rockel said that Hitchcock’s phone was checked through and a number of explicit texts were found. The chief said that Hitchcock was cooperative with officers during questioning.

Hitchcock was charged with one count of third-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree attempted sexual assault. He was arraigned before Magistrate Dallas Toler via video arraignment. Hitchcock was lodged at the Southwestern Regional Jail, in Holden, but was released on bond.

The incident is still under investigation.
