INEZ, KY. - The Sheldon Clark Cardinals ran their record to 5 - 0 on the season with a 45 - 41 win over 17th ranked and defending 15th region champ Johnson Central Thursday night at home.
Neither team shot the ball very well, but good defense on both sides forced that. SCHS trailed 9 - 5 after the first quarter, but behind five points each from Chase Parsley and Chase Kirk went in front 16 - 14 at halftime.
Kirk’s three from the corner at the buzzer to end the third quarter made it 25 - 24. The Cardinals would lead by as many as seven in the fourth quarter but 1-for-6 from the foul line gave Johnson Central the chances to catch up.
Two free throws by Shane Hall with 30.9 left made it 42 - 41. With 15. 5 seconds left, Parsley hit two free throws making it 44- 41. Braxton Blair had a chance to tie the game, but air-balled a three pointer. Kirk then hit one of two free throws with 1. 7 left and sealed the win.
Parsley led Sheldon Clark with 22 points, while Kirk added 12. Dylan James added six, but also had 16 rebounds and blocked three shots for coach Frankie Smith’s squad.
The Cardinals are slated to host Prestonsburg tonight.
