Benny Kirk, 76 of Kermit, son of the late John and Ella (Moore) Kirk is enjoying the presence of his Savior.
He was the beloved husband of Iva Castle Kirk, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Benny “Duke” Kirk, born March 7, 1936, went to be with the Lord on October 18th, 2012, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
He was a 1955 graduate of Kermit High School where he excelled in baseball, football and basketball. He also attended Concord College in Athens, West Virginia. He was employed by Persinger Supply and retired from Wolf Creek Collieries as a purchasing agent.
Benny gave his life to the Lord in the spring of 1958 and faithfully served with his teaching and preaching. He formally pastored the Kermit United Baptist Church where he was loved and appreciated by all. He is preceded in death by several brothers and sister and one beloved grandson, Dusty Ooten.
He is survived, in addition to his beloved wife, by his five children; Mike Kirk, Jeff (Amanda) Kirk, Cheri (Ronnie) Ooten, Lisa (Danny) Sturgill all of Kermit, West Virginia and Benjamin (Karen) Kirk of High Point, North Carolina, his five grandchildren; Corey (Chantall) Kirk, Kaleb Kirk, Kelli Kirk, Ty (Chelsea) Sturgill and Kerry (LeAnn) Sturgill. Benny is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren; Sebastian, Celeste, Emilyn, Kirstyn, Dakota, Brock, Karter, Kooper and Zoey, one brother, Dewey (Leina) Kirk of North Carolina and his beloved cat, Chester.
Visitation will be held at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield, Kentucky on Saturday, October 20, after 5 p.m. Funeral Services will also be held at the Warfield Funeral Home on Sunday, October 21, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tim McCoy officiating and special words by Eric Evans and Andy Lovins. Burial to follow at the Kirk Cemetery, Collins Creek, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the Direction of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.
Ben’s family feels very blessed for his daily example of a constant walk with God.
