Phyllis Lynn Blankenship, 78, of Edgarton, departed this life on Monday, October 1, 2012, from the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A daughter of the late William and Octavia Dotson Sansom, Phyllis was born January 17, 1934, in Mingo County.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard Blankenship; brothers, Charlie and Wilson Sansom and William Blankenship; sisters, Lorain Pruitt, Oma Bailey, and Ella Wagner.
In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, Phyllis was retired, having worked as a United States Post Master.
She leaves to honor her loving memory and mourn her passing sons, Alwyn (Bernice) Blankenship of Sand Siding, Johnny (Virginia) Blankenship; daughter, Sharon (the late Bim) Edwards of Sand Siding; grandchildren, Courtney Stanley, Alex Howard Blankenship, Michael Charles, Tara Hurley and Heather Mullins; and four great-grandchildren.
As per the request of Phyllis, graveside services only will be held Wednesday, October 3, at noon at the family cemetery of Sand Siding, with the Rev. T.H. Ferrell officiating. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan.
